'But Seriously' is a terrific album. Every song has a point. A reason behind the message. Whether social justice; philosophical or in this case, forgiveness. That is the brilliance behind, 'I Wish It Would Rain Down'. The guy in the song knows he burned his bridges. There is no chance of winning this person back. It's over but he knows he must make a amends. Memories are worse punishment sometimes as they live inside of each person for good and bad.

You can imagine probably referring to a girlfriend; a spouse or a friend. Someone that was important and the guy blew it. Ruined something beautiful due to pride; anger or mere 'I'm right and you are not'. A sign of defeat. He wants to make it right. He wants to be forgiven through not only asking and receiving from the person he hurt, but perhaps a physical sign. The rain is a symbol to purify a soul. A sign of a clean slate.
