PAC-MAN UNLIMITED
Updated: 3 hours ago
We need to change up Pac-Man. Yes, the formula still works after forty-six years of existence, but something new is needed. Namco rolled out the yellow round guy back in 1980 after all. One of the appeals of the game is the 8-bit graphics and the maze in this cartoon world. Inky, Blinky, Pinky, and Clyde are still needed to chase after the big guy. The food and power pellets along the dots are timeless. Fun fact: The maze in the original Pac-Man literally stays the same throughout all 256 levels. It didn't and still doesn't stop people from playing it over and over again, needing to beat those levels and the game. Let's take a step back for a minute and look at the Power Pellets. What if they could do more than turn the Ghosts blue, allowing them to be eaten by Pac-Man? What if the pellets could power up Pac-Man into different forms every level? The iconic blue maze with themes to match the level. The ghosts turning other colors or other forms when Pac-Man eats a pellet. Replace the ghosts' box with a door, a room behind it serving the same purpose as the original box. Each level ending with Pac-Man exited through of the tunnels into the next level. The point of the game would be literally world traveling that starts by walking through a maze tunnel that leads into a whole road of adventures. The vignettes would show, between the levels, choices of where to go regarding pathways. And a chance to switch characters if want. Each level would generate from the standard blue maze in each level as Pac-Man enters the maze. The wonk-wonk noise that Pac-Man makes when he moves and eats, would now be more musical. The Ghosts will look the same color each level but may have a new accessory to fit the level. There should have a different effect on the ghosts when power pellets are activated. With new chapter of the franchise comes a new name. 'Pac-Man Unlimited'.
New Levels: Must have different designs for each level. The theme can carry over to more than one screen. In fact, have those extra levels connected to a single theme, linked by the tunnels which must be completed along with the one you started off with. Otherwise, cannot move on.
Swamp Maze: Vines wrapped around the maze. Water filling the alleys to run through. The Ghosts would resemble gators. Power pellets can turn Pac-Man into a sea monster temporarily to attack the bad guys. Bonus food is apples
Robo Maze: Completely mechanical. Cold neon steel with bolts and wire lying about. Trap doors and lasers shooting about. The ghosts are robots with weapons. Power pellets turn Pac-Man into a tank that allows him to blow holes through the maze. Bonus food is light bulbs.
Sky Maze:
Plenty of clouds and blue skies with a point of view change appearing that Pac-Man is looking up. The ghosts would be birds. Power pellets turn Pac-Man into a jet plane allowing Pac-Man to go through the ghost birds. Bird seed is the bonus food for this level.
