- OVER THE TOP ROPE BUT NOT DEFEATED
I’m a pro wrestling fan. Duh, big shock I know. Love Battle Royals. Get anywhere from 10 to 40 wrestlers in a ring with one rule, throw everyone out of ring over the top rope and be the last one in the ring. Unpredictable. Monster mayhem. People beating up each other. Tossing bodies through the air. Crazy rivalries starting or ending. Chaos overload. Dangerous but fun to watch. I love the weird finishes when the big hero wins overcoming the obstacles or the villain wins due to cheating somehow. Booing and cheering mixed in the crowd. But an ending I like is when the top hero and top villain are the last two in match. Going toe to toe, leaving blood, sweat and tears on the mat. Ego driven. Both go out together so no one wins, right? In the far corner you see one person caught in the ropes. Tangled and forgotten. First tossed over but he held on making sure both legs did not touch the floor. Therefore not eliminated. He was underestimated. Didn’t expect this guy. Struggled to free himself holding on. Finally stumbles back in the ring grateful to be free. Guess what? We are stunned and grateful for the moment to see something shockingly wonderful. This guy is happy not pride or ego but that this means something. The hurt; the rejection is replaced by joy. Surviving is the first step to living and living means we win in more ways than we thought.

- MY 13 FAVORITE COMIC BOOK CHARACTERS THAT I WILL ALWAYS GO BACK TO WITHOUT CONSIDERING IF I SHOULD BECAUSE I LIKE THE CHARACTER GENUINELY
I have read a lot of comics in my life. I still love the genre as I reach fifty. There is so much that can be done with ease in comic books that is not so easy to achieve in any other form whether that is animation or live action. I have read many titles and enjoyed most, but these ten are one's I return to often because each offers so much freedom with few limitation. In spite of change in creative, the concept holds together where something good will most often come through even if not all stories are awesome. A steady gamble in other words. Fun fact, each on my list originated as a comic book character. Origins; backstories; supporting characters and style started here. This was the template for all the relaunches; reworks and reboots. Steady evolution of the character with little change from the beginning. Get confused by a show or movie, check the comics, good direction finder. These Universes are complete and whole. They have rules of how things operate. You can relate to these people. Of course most of these titles have been published by various publishers but I am looking at where many started from and many remained. I am looking at you Marvel and DC. You know, the ones that never throw away anything. Shelved, yes. Get of rid, no. 13. Madman (Darkhorse) 1990 - Frank Einstein Born Zane Townsend, an agent of the Tri-Eye Agency, who died in a car accident. Stitched back together and brought to life by Dr. Egon Boiffard and Dr. Gillespie Flem. Given the name Frank, Frank SInatra, and Einstein, Albert Einstein, by Boifferd, as this was a new beginning for the subject. The procedure left Frank an amnesic amplified physical capabilities with superhuman agility and reflexes and a slight precognitive and empathi c power. Evey story deals with weird tales of alien invasion; mad scientists; time travel and everything in between. 12. The Phantom (King Feature Syndicate) 1936 - Kit Walker A line of crime-fighters which began in 1536, where a ship wrecked survivor witnessed the death of his family and crew by pirates. Swearing an oath on the skull of his father's murderer to fight evil, Christopher began a legacy of the Phantom which would pass from father to child, usually handed to the son. And in the case of the son, the name Kit is always passed down and for the daughter, Heloise. The character has no superpowers, he relies on his strength, intelligence, skill at firearms and the myth of his immortality to fight evil. 11. The Maxx (Image) 1993 - A Street Vagrant A purple clad hero of two worlds: our world and the Outback. In the real world, Maxx is a vagrant , while in the Outback, a fantasy reality, he is the powerful protector of the Leopard Queen. Batman (DC Comics) 1939 - Bruce Wayne A young child witnessed the death of both his parents in an alley. Dedicated his life to fight evil so no one would have to endure what he had, Trained himself both physically and mentally to the breaking so to launch his war on crime. - JESUS AND THE LEOPARDS
I grew up in a Christian house hold and I am very thankful for that. It was not shoved down my or my brother and sister's throats. It was a way of life, everyday a understanding that God is present and that God is love. The world is imperfect and therefore we are but God forgives and we follow cause God knows the way. God is perfect. That following and understanding part was not always easy, but was confronting to know that God was on your side no matter who you were or what you were doing. It was as typical as changing your socks. To this day, I am a Christian, a work in progress. And the three of us also went to Catholic school which had its ups and downs but mainly good memories. I liked religion class, same reason as I enjoyed history and English, because I enjoyed the stories. I love stories, especially if they are beyond my imagination. I have a really good imagination and could go on for hours on my favorite types of stories which tend to be science fiction and fantasy. History was cool because it really happened but was based on everyday types things with a little extra something in those moments. English was good because we read fiction which may have been based in reality was loosely. Religion was a different animal, because see the Bible speaks of historically sound places and events while also paving the way with intellectual principles. I.E., faith alone saves us and to embrace all people as Christ does, with understanding and love. There is a Israel and there is evidence of Jesus Christ, so I liked Religion a lot knowing that it was full of fantastical moments but was real.Think about it, everyday life is full of moments that can not be logically explained but happened none the less. People survive terrible accidents without logical reason, are cured of disease without logical reason, and being capable of performing super human feats like lifting a car off of others in times of crisis. Miracles that occur many times without being noticed. Everything is a pattern, everything is a plan, and everyone has a choice. Don't agree, that is okay. I enjoyed the new testament better then the old testament because New chronicled Christ, who I saw as a kind of a real life super hero. He came to bring peace, right the wrongs, and save everyone through self sacrifice, and never asked for anything but faith. More powerful then Superman, not angry like Batman but vigilant and more motivated by selfless acts then Spider-man. By the way, Spider-man, Batman and Superman, are awesome. Anyway, back to Catholic school, namely First Grade! I have fond memories of my teacher telling us of the miracles that Christ performed during his ministry. Remarkable to hear of how Christ walked on water, turned water into wine, raised the dead, rose from the dead himself and how he cured the leopards. Yes, you heard that last part correctly. Jesus Christ cured the leopards, or at least that is what six year old me thought he heard. I was very impressed by how Christ cured the leopards of their spots ridding them of their affliction. I had no idea that he was a cat person? Made sense, I guess, since he made them, he probably had a fondness for cats but since Christ is God and God made all things, it must of been pretty difficult to have a favorite. I was so excited about this idea of Christ being able to remove spots for leopards that I went home and told my mom. Mom was a little confused after I told her " Jesus is a really good guy, Mom. He cured the leopards!" "What?, she replied and which time I explained. Mom, by the way, Moms know everything in case you did not know this. She replied, "Kurt, Jesus cured the lepers. Not the leopards. Both had spots but quite different reasons." As it turned out lepers had a plague which caused disfigurement unlike the decorative spots of leopards. Fashion vs. Disease. I was a bit disappointed that Jesus did not cure the leopards because I thought perhaps the leopards may not like having spots. Mom said that God gave them spots for a reason and that God knows best. I asked Mom a few times, just to be sure, that we were now on the same page. I was hoping the curing of the leopards ship had not sailed, but it did.Oh, well. I then asked why did lepers have spots and Mom said that was a mystery but God still knew best because he cured them as a sign that God frees us of our infections which may be mental, spiritual, emotional and physical. All we need to do is seek Him in all things. Goes back to that whole idea of purpose and direction to follow to find the tools and answers we need. Mom could be really deep. So one bunch liked having spots and the other wanted them gone. One bunch walk all four and are technically naked and the other bunch are human most likely waling on two legs. Got it! Mom made the mistake of mentioning watching clean. That Jesus washed away disease. Making one new. Yo u are seeing where this is going, right? Yep, I thought of bath time. Again should this not work for a leopard? Surely those spots would wash off unless that was not by a sharpie. I have experience in that matter. Took a while to fade after many scrubbing in the tub. Still did go away but time was slow. Why can't leopards just change their coats? Must have a zipper and closet. Variety is the spice of life. I realized that it was good that Christ cured the lepers but it did not stop me from thinking how cool it would of been if a leopard, now spotless, came back and said, "Thank you, Jesus! I appreciate that." Not a bad thing to remember.Mind you, I pretty much envisioned leopards that walk on two legs and have thumbs. I mean how else is one going to shake hands with God? Come on. Recently I told a friend of mine this story. His reply was, "Hey, Jesus was the first animal rightest. Got to love it." Ha!
- STEERING THE SHIP
I’m on an insulin pump. Been on one since 2013 for my type 1 diabetes. Quite handy little device. Adjusts my dose as needed to keep me balanced, ha. Been up and down with this little oddball but the good outweighs the bad. This past Friday, August 8 th , 2025, I and my family went to The Rod Stewart/Cheap Trick Concert in Tinley Park Amphitheater and had a great time. Honestly, the concert was fantastic. Everyone brought their A game. Anyway, an insulin pump can carry three hundred units and needs changed about every three days give or take. I thought I had enough to carry me through, I did not. We live in Palatine, Illinois and were about an hour away when we got to the venue and I saw I had thirty units left. If we went back, we would have missed the concert. I didn’t want to panic anyone as I already feel a burden at times. Had to say a lot of apologies over the years because of my behavior gets messed up when I too high or low in the blood sugar department. Paranoia or drunkenness behavior, which to choose? Sometimes, neither happened depend on my attitude. I dialed up for dinner and it was compensating for my present level with some still active. This is how I knew what was happening. Easy to get use to this stuff as it a life time road. Perfect moment for chaos. Honestly, I live with this disease but it doesn’t play fair. Never a repeat of end results in spite of the same set up. I had nothing left in the reservoir because it all was actively working through me. This gave me hope, but I was definitely sweating this out. I was trying to stay calm; breathe and was seeking God’s help. The mind was working and my patience was cruising. Kelly knew because Kelly can read me like a TV guide. My level was going up past three hundred but I was still hopeful that it would work out. I should of listen to my wife, Kelly, and brought extra insulin but I thought I was okay. It can be hard sometimes to gage when you start off with 55 units and it drops down 25 units in the process with no change in your demeanor. The concert started and something happened. Between the singing along; laughing with friends and family and perhaps the heavy odor of marijuana in the air, my level regulated. Still a little high, due to eating earlier, but was low two hundreds. Could of be so much higher than that which could have caused some nasty side effects. It only began to rise when we pulled in to home for the night. Many factors played in this but I do believe God was the originator of everything going well without a need for an ambulance or panic. I trusted God would show me the answer and he did. Next time, I’m going to bring more insulin. Don’t play with disaster and if you stumble into it, look for help without losing your hope. God will steer the ship if you let him. HE has the map.
- VOLTRON!!!!
As all of you know, I am a huge Pop Culture Geek specializing in Comics; Cartoons; Sci-Fi (mainly Doctor Who); Pro Wrestling and who knows what else. 1984, I discovered a series that I liked but loved the toys! Of course, I can only speak of ‘Voltron Defender of the Universe’. The animated series was made up of two Japan anime shows, meant to be three, involving three different Voltrons. One was ‘Defender of the Near Universe’. Fifteen vehicles that formed one big robot. Second, ‘Defender of the Middle Universe’. Three Gladiator robots that stacked together to become one robot. This one was never adapted and the toys were okay. Third, ‘Defender of the Far Universe’. This was the most popular as it was five lion robots that formed into one. Each Voltron fought to defend the Planetary Alliance against the evil of the Drulls. Yeah, that was there name. Purple aliens who hated anyone different from them. Looked like eggplant. Each team were made of space explorers; the first were a a fleet searching for new colony planets. The other two were meant to be planet defenders, Voltron One and Two looked similar but were from different shows. There was a reoccurring idea of different backgrounds and cultures. Some were aliens as others were merely from different nations of Earth. Various reason why all these characters came together mainly out of cause and other times out of need of the moment. Guided by a sense of right. Thank you editing and dubbing of similar but different things slapping a name on it to make it one Universe. Anyway, Five Lions were the best idea in my opinion due to the toys. Why? Easy, two Lions for the legs; two Lions for arms and one as the body/head. Green and Red can interchange left or right as Yellow and Blue, but are assigned a place in the team. Feet for transportation/guidance; arms for fighting and rescuing and head/body is the heart and mind to choose to act. Also, these toys were originally made by matchbox, metal, and extremely pose able. Together, Voltron looked humanoid with a blue humanoid face and a set of wings on the back. The head had what looked be kind of horns as the hands are lion heads as the feet are. The horns made the lion head, that opened to be the face, resemble bull of sorts. The Blue and Yellow Lions can only be feet as Green and Red can be only arms. The Blue and Yellow are built thicker and sturdier with unique designs and weapons. Green and Red are less bulky appearing for agile while also being individual in appearance. Not a uniform look though looked right together if that makes sense. The Black Lion is the biggest as it forms the head and body. A big old tank. Black leads because body/heart and mind. Five pilots operate each one that can work separately. Elemental powers are present in each. Black is lightning; Green is Earth; Yellow is Wind; Blue is Water and Red is Fire. As Voltron, it possesses many weapons but can not act separately without people operating each of the Lions. Even united, all five were needed to function as a whole. Are you seeing the symbolism? Though mystic power is found in the series, mainly faith is the power, the humanity is needed to carry the technology. One alone cannot do it without the other. The science and the humanity must be joined equally. Faith, God, unites the organic and the machine still separate but one. That is what I always like about the toys. You got a sense of each one was fun alone, but each carried a part of bigger story. Potential or soul. Each pilot carried an aspect of this soul. Keith (Black Lion) was the conscious; Sven/Princess Alura (Blue Lion), she replaced Sven later, were the faith; Pidge (Green Lion) was the intelligence; Hunk (Yellow Lion) was the kindness as Lance (Red Lion) was the will. Ironically, Keith wore red; Lance wore Blue; Sven wore black and Alura wore pink. Did not match the lions they flew at all. Okay. As Voltron, besides being gigantic, has a chest plate which to me said more at the time then suspected. The chest plate is a cross. When I say that I mean the Christian symbol. Jesus Christ. In the modern day the toys have replaced this with a ‘V’ on the chest but not in 1984. I like this because growing up in Church it made my idea of faith more real. More visual. That God united these five, who represented humanity; nature and animal wrapped up in tech into one unit. . We saw that together miracles happened. The unimaginable occurred allowing Voltron to win. A trust and faith grew from the Robot. Characters openly prayed in the original series and was shown in the American version. Evil used magic while good used a system of belief in what was given to them. Evil corrupted what exists while good is given clear vision of the path ahead. I mean, come on. How else do you explain why the big monster of the week would just stand there patiently until all five formed Voltron and then destroyed the ugly Robeast (Robot Beast Monster)? Granted the monsters were pretty dumb but attack the Lions while in mid transformation. Take out the legs or something. You will lose anyway but make Voltron earn the win. I was very fast at putting all the robots together including humming the theme. That was not enough. You also had to say the transformation dialogue.'Ready to form Voltron! Activate interlocks! Dyna-therms connected. Infra-cells up; mega-thrusters are go! VOLTRON!!! Form Legs and feet; arms and body. And I will form the head. VOLTRON' Yes the transformations were for the most part cut and paste in every episode but who cared. EDITOR'S NOTE: The original Anime of Lion Voltron ('Beast King Go Lion') was very dark. A lot of death; violence and disturbing images of evil. There were a lot of edits and narrating to fix these moments turning a bleak concept into an optimistic one. You care about these characters. The concept holds better now then the final product, but still is fun. The show’s characters came to rely on Voltron but I wonder. Was that symbol on his chest what really brought everyone together? Could this be seen as not Voltron as a savior but a tool of a Messiah that could even talk to us through a cartoon? Kindness; mercy; love; forgiveness was all there in the show and perhaps in the battles that we all had with the toys. Or maybe I am seeing more in it then there was. Either way, it’s all good.
- FAST
Always remember, the world keeps moving. As time never halts and never stumbles backwards. If anything, times seems to go faster to catch on lost time. Off day where things might have gone slower. A boring day perhaps. Got to make up for lose momentum. Fall force ahead. Run over every silly needless thing to get to the important stuff. That's the most important, right? Who needs details, right? Faster and faster until time hits a wall. Having to face a moment of change, good and bad. No more ignoring that time. But that's okay, the world is round therefore it bounces fairly well. Worse thing that can happen is we are all dizzy, shaken, a bit of nausea, but we keep going cause we want to see what is next. We will endure. Anyway, beats paying for that roller coaster ride at six flags.
- FAVORITE QUOTE OF EACH ACTOR TO PLAY DOCTOR WHO
This list includes all versions of The Doctor that has a established place in the lineage. Besides traveling about in a time machine that looks like a blue police box, The TARDIS, The Doctor is a Time Lord. A Time Lord should only be able to regenerate twelve times allowing there to be only thirteen version of said character. This of course was to explain why the character survived death which would allow the 'possibility' of mass healing resulting in a complete new form and personality. Allows the actor to leave when time came to without cancelling the series. Sometimes it felt like a reboot and other times felt like business as usual. Of course, the creators of the show had no idea that a show invented in 1963 would continue into 2025. In spite of the obvious changes, The Doctor at the core is a heroic meddler. Wanders about to see the universe but will step in to help when the need arrives though Time Lords are not meant to do, in theory. Each of these quotes I feel represents what the soul is for The Doctor no matter how else the world changes. The First Doctor (William Hartnell) ‘Dalek Invasion of Earth’ 1964 ' One day, I shall come back. Yes, I shall come back. Until then, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties. Just go forward in all your beliefs and prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine. Goodbye, Susan. Goodbye, my dear.’ The Second Doctor (Patrick Troughton) 'The Tomb of the Cybermen' 1967 'Oh yes, I can when I want to. And that's the point, really. I have to really want to, to bring them back in front of my eyes. The rest of the time they... they sleep in my mind and I forget. And so will you. Oh yes, you will. You'll find there's so much else to think about. To remember. Our lives are different to anybody else's. That's the exciting thing! There's nobody in the universe can do what we're doing.' The Third Doctor (Jon Pertwee) 'Planet of the Daleks' 1973 'Courage isn't just a matter of not being frightened, you know. It's being afraid and doing what you have to do, anyway.' The Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) 'Genesis of the Daleks' 1975 ' Well, the final responsibility is mine. And mine alone. You see, if someone who knew the future pointed out a child to you and told you that that child would grow up totally evil to be a ruthless dictator who would destroy millions of lives... could you then kill that child?' The Fifth Doctor (Peter Davison) 'The Resurrection of the Daleks' 1984 'It's strange. I left Gallifrey for similar reasons. I'd grown tired of their lifestyle. It seems I must med my ways. Come On.' The Sixth Doctor (Colin Baker) 'Ultimate Foe' 1986 ' In all my traveling throughout the universe, I have battled against evil, against power-mad conspirators. I should have stayed here. The oldest civilization: decadent, degenerate, and rotten to the core. Power-mad conspirators, Daleks, Sontarans, Cybermen - they're still in the nursery compared to us. Ten million years of absolute power. That's what it takes to be really corrupt.' The Seventh Doctor (Sylvester McCoy) ‘Survival' 1989 'There are worlds out there where the sky is burning, and the sea's asleep, and the rivers dream; people made of smoke and cities made of song. Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice, and somewhere else the tea's getting cold. Come on, Ace. We've got work to do.' The Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann) 'Enemy Within' 1996 'But it was a childish dream that made you a doctor. You dreamt you could hold back death. Isn't that true? Don't be sad, Grace. You'll do great things.' The War Doctor (John Hurt) ‘Day of the Doctor’ 2013 ‘If you have been inside my head, then you know what I've seen. The suffering. Every moment in time and space is burning. It must end. And I intend to end it the only way I can.’ The Ninth Doctor (Christopher Eccleston) 'The Doctor Dances' 2005 'Everyone lives, Rose! Just this once, everyone lives!' The Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) 'Forest of the Dead' 2008 'Why? Why would I give her my screwdriver? Why would I do that? The thing is, future me had years to think about it. All those years to think of a way to save her, and what he did was give her a screwdriver! Why would I do that?! Oh, oh, oh! Look at that! I'm very good!' The Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) 'Time of the Doctor' 2013 'We all change. When you think about it, we're all different people all through our lives, and that's okay, that's good, you gotta keep moving, so long as you remember all the people that you used to be. I will not forget one line of this. Not one day. I swear. I will always remember when the Doctor was me.' The Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi) 'The Doctor Falls' 2017 Winning? Is that what you think it’s about? I’m not trying to win. I'm not doing this because I want to beat someone — or because I hate someone, or because I want to blame someone. It’s not because it’s fun. God knows it’s not because it's easy. It’s not even because it works, because it hardly ever does. I do what I do because it's right ! Because it's decent! And above all, it's kind ! It's just that. Just kind. If I run away today, good people will die. If I stand and fight, some of them might live — maybe not many, maybe not for long. Hey, maybe there’s no point in any of this at all, but it's the best I can do. So I'm going to do it, and I will stand here doing it until it kills me. You're going to die, too, someday. When will that be? Have you thought about it? What would you die for? Who I am is where I stand. Where I stand is where I fall. Stand with me. These people are terrified. Maybe we can help a little. Why not, just at the end, just be kind? The Thirteenth Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) ' The Witchfinders' 2018 'I know, because we're all the same. We want certainty. Security. To believe that people are evil or heroic. But that's not how people are. You want to know the secrets of existence? Start with the mysteries of the heart. I can show you everything if you stop being afraid of what you don't understand, if you trust me.' The Fourteenth Doctor (David Tennant) 'The Giggle' 2023 ' The funny thing is, I fought all those battles for all those years, and now I know what for. This. I've never been so happy in my life.' The Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) 'Space Babies' 2024 ‘For days like this, Ruby Sunday. I don't have a people, I don't have a home... But I don't have a job, either. I don't have a boss, or taxes, or rent, or bills to pay. I don't have a purpose, or a cause, or a mission, but I have... freedom. That's why I keep moving on, to see the next thing, and the next, and the next. And sometimes... It looks even better through your eyes.’

- MOM AND DAD
55 years ago today, history began to take shape. On July 31st,1970 Dean Edmund Lewis married Terri Ann Mercer. Otherwise known as Dad and Mom. A man guided by logic and reason that he believed was set up by God made a life with the most abstract and impulsive women you will ever see. Mom is a very colorful person in more way then one while dad is black and white. He was color blind after all. Mom taught religion; history and English.Only class we could get away with failing would of been lunch and maybe gym. Dad was a mechanical engineer. Geek and nerd, people, geek and a nerd. Together they fought the odds; endured a lot of hurt and found some wonderful memories along the way. Things that could of ripped them apart only strengthened the faith that God can mend the road. They raised 3 kids together and went on to have 7 grandchildren. They took care of each other until the day dad passed in March 2018. Til the end. They argued about silly things like decaf vs caffeine coffee, low fat puddling and is real butter better. Dad was quite protective of mom and mom didn’t always understand dads little hobbies of ham radio or Welsh history. Dad did not understand either why mom loved a good garage sale. She did. Not to mention lottery tickets. Mom had a wonderful knack of finding lottery scratch offs that paid sometimes big and other times small. Paid for some nice dinners out for the family through the years. Mom always got dad something small for Beethoven’s birthday and dad always remembered mom’s love for pecan pie. It was a strong love that was tested and they passed every time. She still misses him but I feel that will never change. They were special together. They would argue but would defend each other. Never gave up. To quote Dad, 'Failure Is Not An Option'. To quote Mom, 'God Knows The Way. He Can Drive!' If this day had never happen then everything else wouldn't either. So personally, there would of been no Karl or me or Freyda. I am still very grateful for all the sacrifices they made for us. When it counted and mattered the most, both my parents got it super right. Happy Anniversary to my parents and thank you for everything. Always Love
