I do not watch a lot of live action TV shows. If something is on then I may watch it but most times I prefer cartoons. I still am a huge animation fan, but there are still a handful of TV shows I will watch and go back to. Why these shows? Simple, world building. These had excellent characters that were easy to relate to. The reoccurring side characters were a nice touch too. These worlds evolved and changed from the start to end of show runs. Locations; show directions and cast changed but quite organically. 5. Mr. Belvedere (ABC 1985-1989) The series follows posh English butler Lynn Belvedere as he struggles to adapt to the Owens household in suburban Pittsburgh. 4. Facts of Life (NBC 1979-1988) The changing lives of young women and their mentor/mother figure, Edna Garrett. The first season featured a large cast at an all-girl school but the eight years would focus mainly on four girls: Blair Warner, Tootie Ramsey, Natalie Green, and Jo Polniaczek. The series shifted from the Eastland School to a storefront bakery ‘Edna's Edibles’, later becomes a pop culture gift shop called ‘Over Our Heads’ run by the girls. 3. Head of the Class (ABC 1986-1991) The series follows a group of gifted students in the Individualized Honors Program (IHP) at the fictional Millard Fillmore High School in Manhattan, and their out of work actor/history teacher Charlie Moore. Moore would leave in the final season and was replaced by eccentric Scotsman Billy MacGregor. 2. Night Court (NBC 1984 -1992) The show is set in the night shift of a Manhattan Criminal Court presided over by a young, unorthodox judge, Harold "Harry" T. Stone. The series focused on the weird types of cases that went through the court and the oddball cast. 1. Cheers (NBC 1982-1993) The show is set in the bar in Boston, run by ex-Red Sox player and womanizer, Sam Malone. Stories centered in the bar as the eclectic cast would gather and stories would grow beyond mere episodes and became years long arc.
