SPIDER-MAN: A NEW WEB CHAPTER 1

Chicago

Peter

"Attention, Ladies and Gentlemen. We'll be landing in 5 minutes." In 5 minutes, We'll be at O'Hare airport. Still wished that I had my costume with me instead of Aunt May sending it ahead to our new home in Chicago.

"I feel naked without it, Aunt May."

"I know, but unless you were into telling the airport security about your secret, it was safer to send it with the movers." I hate that Aunt May is right.

"Did we really have to move to Chicago?"

"That's where my job decided to move me to, Peter. I know you miss your friends but, it's like not like we have to stay here forever. You can still go back to New York to visit your friends."

"All right, Aunt May." Hi, my name is Peter Parker and I have been Spider-Man for a year now. I was bitten by a radioactive spider when I went to a lab science lab on a field trip during my junior year. I did not become Spider-Man until my Uncle Ben died at the hands of a robber. I told my Aunt May that I'm Spider-Man after I came home one night battered and bruised. Since then, she has helped me when it comes to keeping my secret of being Spider-Man not known to the public. We are currently landing at O'Hare in Chicago. The reason why we moved from Queens, New York, to Chicago, Illinois because of Aunt May's job. I turn to Aunt May after the plane lands and while we're waiting to get off.

"Aunt May?" Aunt May turns to me.

"Yes, Peter?"

"What goes on in Illinois?" Aunt May is silent for a moment before she speaks again.

"I don't know besides where my job decided to send me to." We get off the plane and head through security. After we get through security, I head to the gift shop while Aunt May waits for our bags. While in the gift shop, I see a little child with I'm assuming their parents. Aunt May has raised me since I was 2 years old, but this past year has she raised me alone. My parents died when I was 2 so I don't have many memories with them. They were scientists that died in a plane crash. I was staying with Aunt May and Uncle Ben when they died. I see Aunt May coming to the gift shop with our bags.

"Peter, are you almost ready to go?" A book about Chicago catches my eye. I better buy it since I have no clue about this city besides The bean or Cloud Gate in Millennium Park and that deep dish pizza was invented here.

"Almost." I grab a copy of the book and head to cashier to buy.

"You a tourist, kid?" As the cashier is ringing up the book.

"No sir. I live here now." I hand him the money.

"Oh, so you a newcomer to Chicago?"

"Yes sir." The cashier hands me my change and the bag with the book in it.

"Have a nice day, kid."

"You too, sir." I walk towards Aunt May.

"I'm ready."

"Let's go." I grab our bags with ease and head to the doors before Aunt May stops me.

"Peter!"

"What?" Aunt May gives me a look that makes me realize why she's giving me that look. I put the bags down and grab my bags while Aunt May grabs hers. I really need to get better on not showing off my spider powers in public. We go outside and find our taxi waiting for Aunt May and I. The taxi driver pops the trunk open, and I put our suitcases in the trunk while Aunt May gets in the taxi. I close the trunk and get inside the taxi. Once I get in and buckle my seat belt, the driver starts driving.

"Where to?"

"59 East Van Bulen Street."

"Alright, Ma'am." During the drive, I keep noticing the driver keeps looking at Aunt May and I through the mirror.

"So, uh, are you two related?"

"Yes, sir."

"Okay. So is that your mother, kid?"

"Technically no sir. She's my Aunt but, she has raised me since I was 2." Aunt May has pretty much been my Mom for the last 15 years of my life.

"Oh, okay then." Through out the drive to our new house, I look through my book about Chicago. I didn't know that the Willis Tower was originally called the Sears Tower. I keep looking through the book when I get to the museums section.

"Aunt May!"

"Yes, Peter?"

"Look!" I show Aunt May the museums section of the book which Chicago is home to more than 60 museums.

"That's interesting, Peter." I wonder what museum Aunt May in going to be working at since her job moved us from New York to Chicago. I turn to Aunt May.

"Aunt May?" Aunt May doesn't even look at me while she's looking at some papers for work.

"Yes, Peter?"

"What museum are you going to be working at now?"

"The Art Institute of Chicago, Peter. Why do you ask?"

"Just curious, Aunt May." I go back to my book. I turn to the sports section. I didn't know that Chicago has 8 Major League sports teams. Since now I'm in Chicago, I don't know what baseball team to root for. The Chicago Cubs or The New York Yankees. I didn't know that Wrigley Field was the second oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball. I get so invested into my book that I don't even realize we're there until Aunt May nudges me on the shoulder.

"Peter, we're here."

"Oh, coming Aunt May." I unbuckle my seat beat, grab my book, and get out of the taxi to help Aunt May with our bags. I also see the movers already here, that's good. I look at the building that I'll be living here at least until after I graduate high school. I turn to face the other side of the street and I notice a pizza joint called Riley's. I wonder if it's any good. I know where we might have for dinner tonight. I grab 4 boxes out of the truck and head into the building.

"Hehe, he's an athlete. Peter!" I hear Aunt May come running behind me.

"Yea, Aunt May?" I see Aunt May's look. I'm doing it again. Showing off my powers in public.

"Sorry, Aunt May."

"Just be careful." I head for the stairs before I remember that I have no idea what floor or number our apartment is.

"Aunt May!"

"5th floor, apartment F."

"Thank you." I walk up the stairs to the 5th floor and to the apartment with Aunt May behind me to open the door. Aunt May unlocks the door. Wow, this place feels so big right now. I put the boxes down and head back out to get the rest of the boxes from the moving truck. I get the rest of the items that were in boxes up to our apartment before I head back down to help move items that weren't in boxes such as our couch that had been in the old home back in New York. So many memories especially with Uncle Ben. It's been a year since he died, but I still remember the day he died like it was just yesterday.

I was walking home from picking up some things for Aunt May at the convenience store that was only a couple of blocks from our house in New York. I had only my powers and had been Spider-Man for about two months at this point. I had seen a robber run out of the store out after me...That same robber killed my Uncle Ben that night. When I walked close to our house, I saw police cars, an ambulance, and a couple others surrounding our home. Aunt May was talking to one of the officers, describing the person who had robbed our home and ended up killing Uncle Ben. I walk towards Aunt May who at the time finished talking to the officer.

"Aunt May? What's going on? Where's Uncle Ben?" Aunt May was barely holding it together. Could you blame her? Not only her home got robbed but, her husband, the love of her life had gotten shot by that criminal.

"Someone robbed the house and shot your uncle!"

"Where's Uncle Ben?" Aunt May points to the paramedics putting Uncle Ben into the ambulance.

"Uncle Ben!" I ran to the ambulance where I saw my Uncle barely holding on with the many bullet wounds from being shot.

"Pe...Pete...Peter."

"Uncle Ben! Who did this?"

"No one important."

"Uncle Ben..."

"Just a burglar, Peter."

"I'll avenge you."

"Peter! I just want you know this."

"What?"

"Remember... With great power comes great reasonability." With great power comes great reasonability. The last words that Uncle Ben said to me before he died. Uncle Ben died way before they got to the hospital. After the ambulance with my dead Uncle inside left, I broke down crying. The rest of that night is a blur but, the only thing I remember after the ambulance leaving was Aunt May telling me that Uncle Ben's death wasn't my fault. After the night Uncle Ben died and even after his funeral, I began to hunt down that burglar that killed him. To make him pay for killing my Father of, at the time, 14 years.

"Peter? Peter! PETER BENJAMIN PARKER!"

"Yea? Oh, sorry!" I help Aunt May get the couch up the first and second flight of stairs before I launch it up three more flights of stairs to the fifth floor.

"Peter!" Oops, also launched my aunt with the couch too.

"Sorry!" Aunt May and I get the couch into the apartment. Aunt May goes back downstairs to get the rest of the items from the moving trucks. I sit down on the couch before moving it. I also remember the night that I got justice for my uncle and when I finally told my aunt that I was Spider-Man.

I had been Spider-Man for only half a year at that point. Uncle Ben had only been dead for 4 months too. I had finally found the criminal that killed him. I had him cornered. Punches and kicks had been thrown at one another. I could barely stand when I had finally heard the sirens. The criminal was down on the ground when I just ran the best I could. When I finally reached home, I climbed up the drainpipe to my bedroom and just collapsed on the floor.

"Peter?" I hear Aunt May coming up the stairs and walk into my room.

"Peter..." I hear Aunt May's footsteps crept closer. Aunt May flipped me over and pulled off the mask.

"Peter."

"Hi." I told Aunt May everything while she fixed me up and fixed my costume.

"Alright, that was the last of everything. Already paid the movers and the taxi driver. Peter, are you okay?"

"Uh, yea." Aunt May sees my sadden expression but chooses to not ask any questions. Aunt May starts to unpack some of the boxes. I get up and pick up the couch.

"Where do you want the couch to be, Aunt May?" Aunt May sees me holding up the couch.

"Just put it over there, Peter." I walk over to where Aunt May is pointing and put the couch down. I start to scrounge around the boxes, trying to find my costume.

"Peter, what are you looking for?"

"My costume."

"It's in the box by where you put the couch." Oh. I completely missed it. I walk over to the couch and find the box. I pretty much rip the box open. Yes! My costume! I seriously felt naked without it.

"Alright, since we're still moving in and it's getting closer to dinner time, Peter!" I turn to face Aunt May while putting on my costume.

"Yea, Aunt May?" Aunt May looks at me.

"Not even going to question it. Peter, will you pick up a pizza from Riley's across the street?" I get my costume on.

"Sure!" I open the window and climb out of it.

May

"Sure!" Peter opens the window and he climbs out of it. Should have told him to go through the door or not put on the costume to go get pizza. I'm just hoping that Peter doesn't freak out people while he's Spider-Man.

Peter

I sling a web to the building across the street and I'm already there. Oh, Aunt May wasn't lying. It is across the street. I walk into Riley's and I hear yelling from the back. I walk up to the counter when I see I think one of the cooks looking at me.

"We got a customer!" I see guy that's taller than the cook walking over.

"Customer? Mom, that's Spider-Man!"

"Spider-Man? Here? In Chicago?" Soon the whole kitchen is flooded with guys.

Chris

Was doing inventory before I hear my brothers all arguing about Spider-Man? I walk over to the kitchen.

"Boys! CHRIS!"

"On it, Mom!" I put my hat on and walk out of the kitchen. Why is Spider-Man here in Chicago? Or in Illinois for that matter? If he was fighting a villain and got lost, he's a long way from home.

"My name is Chris, what do you want?" What is Spider-Man staring at? I see what Spider-Man is staring at.

"I'm a girl."

"Oh! Sorry!"

"What do you want, Spider-Man? Also, aren't a long way from home?"

"Oh, I live here now!" Spider-Man lives in Chicago now? Why did he leave New York?

"Ok, then. What do you want?"

"Food."

"Thank you, Smartass. What type of pizza do you want?" Spider-Man looks at the menu before he speaks again.

"What's the Daimh Pìoba?" He really wants the Oxen Pizza? The pizza that the only reason why we have is because both sets of my grandparents like it?

"It's Irish for Oxen and Scottish for Pizza."

"Oh. Then what do you recommend?"

"Pizza."

"Alright then. I'll get the thick crust cheese pizza." Wow, he's really from New York.

"Alright then." I write down his order and ring the bell.

"One thick crust cheese pizza! For Spider-Man!"

"Heard!" I put the order on the moving rack so that Mom and Dad know what the order is. I turn around and Spider-Man is already seated at the counter, waiting for his pizza to be done.

"CHRIS!"

"YEA?"

"IS THIS A TO-GO ORDER OR FOR HERE?" I turn to Spider-Man.

"Is it for here or to go?"

"To go."

"Alright. TO GO, MOM!"

"THANK YOU!" I go back to the kitchen, take off my hat, and head to the back to do inventory.

Peter

I see the girl named Chris walk away into the back. I hope the pizza is ready soon because Aunt May is kinda blowing up my phone, making sure I'm ok.

"CHRIS!"

"WHAT?"

"YOU DIDN'T WRITE DOWN A NAME FOR THE ORDER!"

"THE NAME FOR THE ORDER IS SPIDER-MAN, DAD!"

"THANK YOU!"  I see the guys from earlier staring at me.

"Hi." I awkwardly wave to them.

"DARREN! BLAKE! WE HAVE ORDERS TO PUT OUT. GET TO IT!"

"SORRY MOM!" So, they're the girl named Chris' brothers. Two of the brothers get to work in the kitchen.

"MAXWELL! FERGAL! DELIVER THESE ORDERS TO THE CUSTOMERS!" I see two little boys come out of the kitchen with orders for the customers in the shop. I've never seen two Rottweilers in clothes before. The Rottweilers go in and out of the kitchen until.

"THICK CRUSTED CHEESE PIZZA FOR SPIDER-MAN!" One of the Rottweilers hands me the pizza and I hand them the money for the pizza.

"Thank you! Have a good night." I head for the door before I see the bulletin board for this pizza shop. Oh, they're hiring for a Delivery boy. Might as well get a job as Peter Parker that's outside of Spider-Man. I rip off one of the tags off the sign and head out of the shop. I sling a web to the fifth floor of the apartment building and come in through the same window I went out of about half an hour ago. I take off my mask.

"I'm back." Aunt May turns around and sees me holding the pizza.

"Use the door next time, Peter."

"Oh, right."

"Without your costume on. Change into your street clothes before you come in, Peter."

"Ok, Aunt May." I set the pizza down on the counter of the kitchen and take off my costume. I fling my costume into the basket to me.

"Peter, we have three laundry baskets."

"And?"

"Put your costume in the right basket, Peter! The one with a spider on it." I see the basket with the spider on it next to the whites basket that I just flung my costume into.

"Sorry, Aunt May." I take my costume out of the whites basket and put it into the spider basket.

"So, shall we eat?" We open the box and dive into it. I end up eating most of it while Aunt May has a couple of slices in between opening and moving boxes.

"Achoo!" I sneeze and now I'm stuck to the window.

"Uh, Aunt May? Did we unpack the knives?"

"Not yet, Peter...I'll go get the scissors." Aunt May goes to get the scissors.

"Better use a knife. I ate a lot of pizza and I need to go to the bathroom. I don't think I can wait an hour."

"Just hold it until I get back with the scissors or a knife." So yea, Day 1 went well expect for right now. Hopefully, when I start Senior year, it goes well too.
