SPIDER-MAN: A NEW WEB CHAPTER 3
by Josie Hook

Peter

"Aunt May, why do I need new clothes? What's wrong with the ones I have?" Clothes shopping with Aunt May and it's a bit embarrassing.

"Besides that, you start a new school next week which Walk Your Schedule is on Wednesday. Due to your 'unexpected growth spurt' that seemed to only even out recently, your clothes and shoes don't fit you." Growth spurt? What growth spurt is Aunt May ohhhh. She's talking about my powers.

"My shoes fit!" Aunt May gives me a look.

"Really?"

"Yes."

"Try walking without wincing in pain."

"Alright." I walk and try to not wince out loud since I'm seriously proving Aunt May's point of my shoes not fitting me.

"See!"

"You're getting new shoes, Peter."

"Fine!" I follow behind Aunt May to the shoe section. Looks like we're getting shoes first. Yay. This is totally not embarrassing. We dodge through the aisles of shoes until we stop. Aunt May puts her purse down next to the small bench and turns to grab whatever she's now holding.

"Alright, Peter. Sit down and take your shoes off." I sit down on the bench and take my shoes off. As much as I hate to keep proving my aunt's point about needing new shoes, it does feel good to take those off. Those feel like 3 sizes too small. Once they're off, I look at the tongue for the size They're size 9. Yep, definitely too small. Yes, no socks since my feet shredded the last pair due to the amount of growth that happened when I was bitten. I'm also guessing that I'll be getting new pairs of socks. Aunt May crouches down with what looks like a weird foot board in her hand. She puts it down on the ground, next to my right foot.

"Peter, put your foot in it." I put my foot in it and Aunt May measures my feet. She slides the little slider down until it hits my toe, marking it at size 11.

"Right foot, size 11. Next foot." Maybe to make sure both are the same size? I try to lift my foot out of it but, gets stuck. Uh oh. Aunt May sighs.

"For the love of God, Peter!"

"Sorry." Aunt May shifts one of her knees to the floor while keeping the other one bent. She puts the bent one on the foot board while she puts her hands on the bottom of my foot and my ankle.

"Ok. One, two, three." Aunt May pulls my foot out on three and Damn, it fucking stings!

"Ow!"

"Sorry. Next foot." Aunt May moves the foot board next to my left foot. I take a look at my right foot and the bottom is kind of red. Well, no shit since Aunt May had to practically rip my foot off. I do the same as I did my right one. Aunt May slides the little slider until it hits my toes, marking it also the same size as my right one. Size 11. Aunt May pulls my foot out again and still stings like hell.

"Alright then, Peter. Size 11 and half shoes for you. Better to have room in the shoes than not." Aunt May stands up.

"I'll be right back." Aunt May disappears for a few minutes before she reappears with different brands of shoes in the same color.

"I grabbed what I could find in size 11.5 men's shoes so, you got a choice between whatever I grabbed." Aunt May sets the boxes down next to me and I grab the first box. A box of black Adidas shoes. I open the box and pull out both shoes. I put both of them on and stand up.

"Try walking in them." I walk around in them before going on to the other ones.

All of them were black. Black Nikes. Black Chucks. Heck, there was even crocs in that line up. I ended up picking the black chucks since I think they'll work well with my powers. Aunt May puts the other shoes that aren't the chucks back while I put the shoes I had walked in here with back on. I put the black chucks back into the box. I'll wear them once I get socks.

"Alright, got shoes. Now, time for socks." I stand up with the box of chucks I picked out as Aunt May grabs her purse. We head out of the shoe section and head for the clothes section.

By the time we get to the registers, I end up with a couple of pairs of socks, a couple of shirts, a few pairs of pants, a few hoodies, and obviously the black chucks. As we're waiting for our turn in the line, I hear someone calling out my name?

"Peter?" I turn around and see a face I haven't seen since 4th grade. Due to reasons regarding Captain Stacy's job, Gwen left New York the summer going into 5th grade.

"Gwen?" Gwen runs up to me.

"Hey. What are you doing here in Chicago?"

"I live here now." I see Gwen's eyes lighting up.

"That's awesome."

"Gwendolyne!" I look over Gwen's shoulder and see Captain Stacey in the distant. He stills look the same, just older. Gwen looks over her shoulder and back at me.

"I gotta go. Later."

"Later." Gwen walks away and I'm being tugged. Oh, didn't realize the line was moving. Well, at least I know person besides Aunt May in this city.
